Event organizers are users with the technical abilities to coordinate and manage events on Wikimedia Commons through the CampaignEvents extension. They have the following abilities:

  • Create an event page in the event namespace. - campaignevents-organize-events
  • Add users (with the organizer right) as co-organizers of an event
  • Enable, edit and disable registration on event pages that they created. - campaignevents-enable-registration, campaignevents-delete-registration
  • Collect information on participant demographics, if they agree to a clickwrap agreement
    • Participants can answer optional questions when registering on: Gender, age, profession, comfort level in contributing to Wikimedia projects, and if they are a part of any Wikimedia affiliates
  • See who registered for the event and when they registered - campaignevents-view-private-participants
  • Remove participants from the participant list
  • Send emails to registered participants, if they have emails confirmed. - campaignevents-email-participants
  • Generate invitation lists, if the Invitation List feature is enabled

There are currently 9 event organizers on Wikimedia Commons.

Seeking the rights

The rights are granted at COM:RFR to trusted users who demonstrate knowledge related to CampaignEvents extension. Following are some factors that may impact your request:

  • You are active enough on Wikimedia Commons. 500 recent edits would be advisable.
  • You are a volunteer with or a staff member of a Wikimedia affiliate
  • You have received a Wikimedia grant for an event, or that you plan to organize an event
  • You are part of Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Africa, or similar initiatives.
