MARBLE - Laser engraved black marble is the best candidate
for high detail, photographic quality murals. At 300-400 dots per
inch the eye creates an illusion of continuous tone. Combining this
with the deep blackness of the marble gives crisp depth to most
images. Pure toned marble comes in a variety of colors, textures
and movements, and can be etched, then stained in any color. Like
any metamorphic rock, with time etched marble can be worn away with
abrasion. Its rating of 3 on the Measure of Hardness Scale is why
Laser Edge Designs suggests that our marble product not be placed
in heavy traffic areas but if so, we recommend a high-gloss lacquer
finish be applied.
GRANITE - An igneous rock of visible crystalline formation and texture,
composed of feldspar and quartz, with a small amount of mica. Granite
is a very hard material with a crushing strength of 15,000 to 20,000
lbs. per sq. inch, which is much greater (a 6 or 7 on the Measure
of Hardness Scale) than marble. Granite is perfect for engraved
floor insets and outdoor murals, and maintenance is the same as
for regular granite floors. When the laser etches into granite,
the tiny holes it creates are much larger than those in marble,
allowing the stone to soak and hold stains more readily. This unique
feature allows granite to be the best medium for large colorful
murals.
SLATE
- A fine grained metamorphic stone formed from clay and sedimentary
shale that is black, gray, or green. This material, when etched,
can be used to adorn landscapes, garden walls and fireplaces. We
suggest darker tones of slate for laser etching as slate cannot
be stained.
BRICK
- A man- made material, laser engraved bricks can be used as accents
in walls, as garden stones or markers. All colors of brick can be
used since the engraving is a deep black or white. Sealants are
a must for this material in outdoor use.
CERAMICS - The choice is unlimited! We take normal, average tile
in any color or substrate, and laser engrave directly into the surface
of the tile. Using a ceramic marking medium, the image of your preference
can be etched onto any surface in black, bronze or indigo blue,
or for an additional charge enamel fill-paint can also be added
for contrasting color patterns.
LASERTILE - LaserTile is a ceramic tile specifically designed for
laser etching. The tile comes in a wide variety of colors and sizes,
while the etching itself is a soft black tone. The base of the tile
is high-quality floor grade tile that is extremely durable. This
material is appropriate for any design requiring ceramic tile and
has all of the same characteristics of standard ceramic tile.
WOOD - The beauty of wood burning can be obtained in a more exact
and timely manner through laser etching. Photographic quality is
achieved in a matter of minutes compared to the old-fashioned way
of tediously wood burning with handheld devices. Patterns and imagery
can be consistently replicated over and over again without competing
with the natural grain of the wood.
VENEER - From the most intricate, detailed designs to the most opulent,
veneers can be cut or engraved, stained then precisely placed without
overlapping to create a mosaic effect. Detail is our specialty.
GLASS - Laser etched glass is a beautiful design element that plays
with the positive and negative spaces of an image. Our art staff
is breaking new ground with tinting glass in virtually any color.
Logos are perfect for this process. When lit by edge lighting, the
etched image glows in any color and can be used as an artistic light
source.
ACRYLIC/PLEXIGLAS - Acrylics come in a variety of colors from translucent
to solid. This durable material can be used in place of glass where
the need for translucency exists, yet the conditions are too harsh.
Acrylic is also better for high detailed images with lots of grayscale
because the material is so soft, and it can be just as beautiful
as glass when edge lit.
CORIAN
- Specific to the industry, Corian is used for various types of
countertops and backsplashes. Unfortunately, most of the time they
are installed as solid pieces. What a wonderful twist to have your
favorite motifs, patterns or borders etched along its surface in
a lighter color tone!
METALS
- These materials are perfect for decorating in modern motif or
sprucing up plain surfaces that are necessary in metals. After applying
a chemical marking spray to the material, the laser burns a black
mark into the surface of most metals. Specialty color metals are
available, such as anodized aluminum or Laserbrass, which can also
be engraved and add brilliant vibrancy to fixtures that were normally
eyesores.
